About the event

We meet at the finish car park to leave some cars here and then drive, car sharing, to the start at Broughton Mills.

The Cumbria Traverse is a 52km route from Broughton Mills in the south of the Lakes to Keswick in the north, visiting 21 summits along the way and climbing almost 4000m of ascent.  Sixteen of the official summits are Wainwrights, including classics such as The Old Man of Coniston, Crinkle Crags, Great Gable and Cat Bells; there are Wainwright outlying fells - Great Stickle, Stickle Pike and Caw - and, somewhat confusingly, two are the uncategorised tops of White Maiden and Brown Pike.

But, putting peak definitions aside, this high-level route is not just about box-ticking.  Instead it delivers an intimate, varied and dramatic journey across the Lake District landscape, fitting perfectly into a 3-day adventure with two widl camps.  It's a tough and arduous walk, but utterly mesmerising.

You'll need - tent, food, sturdy walking boots, stove, water (ideally 2 litres and purification tablets as well), food, rucksack, suitable clothing, including waterproofs, hat and gloves.  By all means bring your own map (OS Explorer 4 and 6 or Harvey Superwalker XT25 Lake District West and North)
